In the middle of vast wilderness, the Indians of what we now call home dominated and knew the area like the back of their hand. But their trails were not preferred way for the newcomers from Europe. Rails soon replaced the Indian's old trail, and the once little camps of Indians grew to be home to the largest railroad shops in the world. They all had one thing in common, they overcame the Allegheny front. This book includes information of the Kittanning Trail, The Huntingdon, Cambria, and Indiana Turnpike, The Allegheny Portage Railroad, and the Pennsylvania Railroad's World Famous Horseshoe Curve.
This book was written as a tribute to late historian Fred E. Long who wrote Conquering The Alleghenies in 1966.
Kevin J. Stiver is a young historian and author who also wrote about the forgotten mining village of Glen White, PA, that was at one time located two miles beyond the World Famous Horseshoe Curve.
